Sindacati sotto attacco in Turchia!

Free imprisoned trade union leaders in Turkey!

In Turkey the AKP reactionary regime,
which has used the failed coup d’etat in 2016 to launch a ferocious
repression, jailing over 50,000 people and arbitrarily dismissing more
than 100,000 alleged opponents,
which besides oppressing with iron and fire the Kurdish population in
Western Anatolia,
has militarily occupied Afrin in Syria, with the complicity of Russia,
U.S., Assad, Iran, China and European powers, in order to destroy one of
the few islands of democratic participation, interethnic and
inter-sectarian solidarity, and of women’s emancipation in the Middle
East, and now is going to attack Kobane as well,
inside Turkey it is extending repression against workers and their unions.
From Izmir, Turkey’s second largest city, we have received the following
appeal, which we share and circulate.

Trade Unions are Under Attack in Turkey!
The executive officers of Union of All Municipality Civil Servants (Tüm Bel-Sen) and Education and Science Workers' Union (Egitim-Sen) in Izmir, Turkey are being held in custody for the last 6 days.
Tüm Bel-Sen and Egitim-Sen are members of Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions (KESK) in Turkey. KESK, which is the first and one of the largest confederations of civil servants' unions, represents the rights of public workers and teachers.
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) declared the State of Emergency (famously abbreviated as "OHAL" in Turkish) in July 2016. Since then, AKP has been eliminating and purging all of its opponents – individuals, institutions and movements alike.. AKP has been pressuring on the unions as well. We request your help to bring the international attention on these illegal actions of AKP and to support the unions in their struggle against the institutionalization of a one-man regime in Turkey.
